Client: Saudi Railway Company (SAR) / Al-Ayuni Investment & Contracting Co. (AICC)

Location: North–South Railway, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Period: 2021 – 2022 (11 months)

Narrative & Background

As part of the established WOT–AICC rail framework, AICC secured the first large-scale installation of removable vulcanized rubber panel level crossings for SAR. Materials were free-issued by SAR/AICC, with WOT (operating locally as Track & Plant Project Management) providing all technical resources, supervision, and installation teams. This project carried strategic importance: it was the first deployment of Rosehill Rail’s rubber crossing technology in Saudi Arabia, including installations at designated camel crossing points — a vital safety intervention in the North–South corridor.

Scope & Capabilities
  • Installation of 26No. removable vulcanized rubber panel level crossings across multiple sites including Ras Al Khair, Nariyah, and the Hail–Al Jouf corridor.

  • Full site preparation, civil interface works, and reinstatement of approach roads.

  • Integration with SAR systems, including coordination on signalling and telecoms (S&T).

  • Deployment of skilled installation crews trained in Rosehill’s proprietary methods.

  • Strict adherence to SAR’s specification and quality benchmarks for railway-road interfaces.

Key Challenges
  • Pioneering solution: First-time application of Rosehill’s rubber technology in the Kingdom, requiring adaptation to local operating and climatic conditions.

  • Environmental extremes: Installation carried out under high heat, dust, and heavy-vehicle traffic conditions.

  • COVID-era delivery: Execution during residual pandemic restrictions demanded precise logistics and workforce management.

  • Live rail conditions: All installations were undertaken under live train operating conditions,

  • requiring meticulous planning, close coordination with SAR operations, and stringent safety controls.

Outcome & Benefits
  • All 26No. installations delivered within the 11-month programme.

  • Enhanced safety at both road intersections and dedicated camel crossings, directly supporting SAR’s accident reduction strategy.

  • Introduced a proven, durable, and low-maintenance crossing solution into the Saudi railway network.

  • Reinforced WOT’s role as a trusted implementation partner, capable of executing complex, high-visibility projects under the AICC framework.
